Criticism seems to be nearer to Emma Raducanu than success in recent months. The British star has had eleven different injuries from July 2021 till now – the worse was in the 2023 Australian Open when she injured her ankle and wrist. She has not featured in any tournament since then. And while Raducanu is on a mission for a great comeback in 2024, Piers Morgan has latched a brutal criticism on her over a commercial engagement.
The 2021 Open Champion in a quest for a comeback in 2024 hit the gym as soon as she landed in Paris. The youngster seem not to be distracted from her goal though the criticism continues.
Piers Morgan takes aim at Emma Raducanu
Piers Morgan turned his verbal fire on Emma Raducanu after she took part in an advert that he suggested was “designed specifically to irritate me!” This was after HSBC, a bank and one of Raducanu’s sponsors commissioned an author to re-write classic fairy tales Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel, with a fresh take on the original storylines.
In the reworked tales, Cinderella is a successful businesswoman who designs her own sports shoe, Rapunzel becomes a property mogul by renting out her tower and Sleeping Beauty becomes rich from interest earned during her 100-year-long sleep.
The message from the stories is that women don’t need men to succeed in life, as Raducanu explained in the extended story posted on HSBC’s social media platforms.
“Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel are all successful young women. They have used their brains, imagination and good sense to earn enough money to look after themselves without a Prince Charming in sight. What a great story. So in the end, the princesses didn’t need a prince to save them. They set up their own businesses, saved their money and spent it very wisely,” Raducanu explained.
Piers Morgan said that this was another example of a ‘woke’ corporate company embracing the idea of canceling men from leading roles, as he suggested Raducanu was misguided to sign up to take part in the campaign.
“Of course, we all know, the best way to improve the aspirations of women is by trashing men,” said Morgan on his PiersUncensored Talk TV show.
“As Emma said, women don’t need men at all. She certainly didn’t need men to get to where she is today… except from her father and her agent Max Eisenbud who is very, very good at maximizing her income despite the fact he is a man.”
“And then in a final twist of this tale of virtue signaling treachery, it turns out the chairman; chief executive and chief financial officer on HSBC’s board of directors are all men too.”
Morgan’s dismissive tone was then replaced with some words of guidance for Emma Raducanu, “I think she’s great and when she won the US Open it was amazing, but she hasn’t won a shoebox since then. I think she’s spending too much time on this commercial stuff and not on the court. That’s my view as a man. Take it or leave it.” It remains for Emma Raducanu to either take or leave.
Emma continues comeback journey in Paris
Emma Raducanu’s comeback quest is well alive as the 20-year-old captioned a video posted on her Instagram story, “Arrive to Paris, straight to the gym.” In May, Raducanu had surgeries on both wrists and her right ankle but she looks fine.
In a recent interview with BBC London, Raducanu confirmed she is aiming to return at the start of the 2024 season. “Next season I’ll be back.” the tennis star said.
“This season all the slams were finished so it was difficult to watch them go by but I was trying to stay in my lane as much as possible and keep focused on my recovery,” Raducanu added.
In early December, Emil Raducanu is scheduled to compete in a Chinese exhibition event that is set to last two days and that will probably be Raducanu’s first action since April.
