After years of back and forth on social media, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr will finally step inside the boxing ring and square off against each other on July 29th. This undisputed welterweight championship bout will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It is needless to say that this will be the biggest fight of the year as two of the biggest names in boxing will collide for the most prestigious title.
Chris Algieri gives his take on both Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford
Ahead of this highly awaited clash of the titans, many boxing experts and fighters are sharing their opinion about how the matchup will play out on social media. Similarly, in an interview with Fight Hub TV, former welterweight champion Chris Algieri was questioned about his thoughts on the undisputed welterweight showdown between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
Algieri made a bold claim that this will be the last time that both fighters will be competing at welterweight. Thereafter the former champion was asked for his take on who would win the fight. The American boxer was unable to pick a single favorite from this matchup as he listed down the strengths of both Errol and Bud.
“I can see so many different ways. It’s one of those fights where it’s a true 50-50 fight, which is so hard to say in any kind of era in terms of boxing matchups. I could see Crawford stopping Spence. I could also see Spence beating up and stopping Crawford. That’s how crazy the fight is. It’s that kind of matchup.”
However, Chris favored Errol Spence Jr to get his hands raised as he believes that Bud’s age will play a big factor and he anticipate the unified champion to take advantage of this shortcoming.
“Both men are aging. Crawford is a little bit older. So there are a lot of factors in the fight in the match-up that could potentially have major consequences. Crawford isn’t young enough to move for twelve rounds, and even if he was, Spence could target his body to take his legs away.”
Can Terence Crawford hand Errol Spence Jr his first loss?
The stakes are massive for the matchup between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford as the winner will become the undisputed welterweight champion. Moreover, both boxers are undefeated in their professional career and as a result, one of them will suffer their first loss on July 29th.
With that being said, it is very difficult to predict a clear favorite from this undisputed title showdown as they are highly skilled and have different strengths and weaknesses. Despite being 35 years old, Bud Crawford proved to everyone that he still possesses fearsome power and has the ability to knock out any fighter on his day.
If Terence Crawford works on his cardio and manages to keep the same pace throughout the twelve rounds, then there is a high chance of him winning the fight. Because when we compare the two welterweights, Crawford has a better skillset than his rival Errol. His ability to comfortably switch from orthodox to southpaw and his ring IQ makes him a dangerous opponent.
Errol Spence Jr has displayed previously that he can absorb a lot of blows and trade throughout the twelve rounds. So the only concern for Crawford will be slowing down as the rounds progress.
In the end, regardless of who comes out on top, one can expect a bloodbath between Errol and Terence.
