For first time since joining Liverpool in 2015, Jurgen Klopp announces intention to take sabbatical year

Merseyside club Liverpool is currently preparing for the upcoming 2023/24 season after a disappointing end to the previous one. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be willing to improve the team’s performances all around the pitch and perform well in the Europa League. The team is currently stationed in the South Asian nation Singapore, where they will face Leicester City, Bayern Munich, and other heavyweights in pre-season friendlies. 

The German national witnessed significant improvements in his team’s midfield, with the acquisition of World Cup-winning Argentine Alexis Mac Allister and also, Hungarian midfield creator Dominik Szoboszlai. On the outgoings hand, the Merseyside club will have to cope with the departure of club captain Jordan Henderson and other senior players like Roberto Firmino and James Milner. Klopp does have a tough task on his hand and will look to make further additions to his squad.

During his time in Singapore, the Liverpool boss was questioned about his time at the club and his future plans as well. The German has a contract valid till 2026 after the recent extension. Klopp’s style of play and tactics requires a lot of stamina and is reportedly tough for the manager to train as well.

Upon being questioned about his future, Jurgen Klopp replied,  “I have a contract until 2026 with Liverpool and I want to fulfill it.” The manager went on to explain his plan stating, “(I’ll) then take a sabbatical year. It could be the end, but who knows how I will feel after a year? That’s why I leave the door open.” In essence, Klopp flirted with the media that Liverpool could be the last club that the German will manage, and could retire.

When shedding more light on his plan, the Liverpool head coach stated, I would like to travel a lot, not only when they push me in a wheelchair or when I walk with a cane. I can watch football from anywhere. That’s why I won’t do the job forever.” It is evident that Jurgen will prefer a break after his tenure at Liverpool.

In his 8 years at the club, Jurgen Klopp has been simply outstanding in turning the club’s fortune. The German has been highly successful having won 1 UEFA Champions League, along with 2 more final appearances.

Under his management, Liverpool also won their maiden Premier League title in 2019, convincingly beating everyone else in the league that season. The Liverpool hierarchy trusts him unconditionally and will continue to support him.
