Former Houston Rockets Coach And General Manager Passes Away at 86

The basketball community is grieving the loss of Carroll Dawson, a true legend who guided the Houston Rockets to great heights. For many years, he served as the Rockets’ general manager and assistant coach. The team shared the sad news of his passing on Monday.

The Rockets family is heartbroken over the loss of their beloved former coach. Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta expressed his sorrow, stating, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former longtime Rockets assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson. CD’s kindness, wisdom, and passion for the sport touched everyone around him, and his impact on our organization was immeasurable.”

He added, “On behalf of my family and the entire Rockets organization, we extend our heartfelt condolences to CD’s wife, Sharon, and to all of his loved ones.”

Beginning in 1980, Carroll Dawson served as an assistant coach with the Rockets for over twenty years. In his ten years as general manager, which began in 1997, the club made six appearances in the playoffs. Dawson was the only coach present for all four of the team’s NBA Finals appearances.
