Ryan Williams is just 17, but he’s far from an average teenager. Alabama relied on its youngest player during a crucial moment, and Williams delivered one of the greatest plays in recent SEC football history.
Ryan Williams’ stunning 75-yard TD catch with 2:18 left gave Alabama a 41-34 win after nearly losing a 28-0 lead. Georgia briefly led 34-33 at that moment, but Williams’ awareness and agility helped secure the win.
Besides that, Ryan Williams made an amazing 54-yard catch in the third quarter against Georgia, which helped Alabama get an important field goal. Georgia had one more chance, but freshman Zabien Brown intercepted a pass in the end zone with 43 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Despite being a freshman, his performance in college football has earned him high praise. Ryan Williams has scored five touchdowns in four games and averages 28.9 yards per catch. But the 75-yard catch was the highlight of the day.
Ryan Williams wins the hearts of football community
Freshman Ryan Williams has truly impressed his teammates. Alabama’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, praised his skills after the game, saying, “I knew he’s a smart guy, and sooner or later he’d read what’s going on and make a play.”
He added, “There are reasons he’s open. Understanding of timing and concepts… I think the thing I’m more impressed with is what he’s doing after the catch. It’s not surprising but it’s certainly impressive.”
Fans are amazed, too. One commenter, @Mazursky8895, said, “id is generational wow. Only 17 and shredding one of the best defenses in football in crunch time like nothing.”
Another fan, @CharlieQuinnMMA, noted, “Doing this at 17 years old is absolutely insane.” Many can’t believe Ryan’s incredible performance at such a young age.
