Harry Maguire earns universal praise from teammates, pundits for soldiering on despite concussion fears

Harry Maguire has been by far one of the most trolled and criticized players in the past few years, which has certainly affected his psychology due to the negativity he has received since his arrival at Old Trafford.

After losing his first-eleven spot under Eric ten Hag, Maguire’s brilliant performances in recent matches cemented his spot in the defense line, especially after the victory over Fulham. Despite getting a knock, Maguire continued the game and received praise from all around.

The Red Devils were entering the fixture after suffering two consecutive losses against Manchester City and Newcastle United respectively. It was a must-win match for the Ten Hag’s side due to immense pressure mounting on his role as the manager at the club amid the rumored ongoing talks of his replacements.

The England international center-back earned his fourth consecutive start of the season in the league, having only managed 26 minutes as a substitute in their first seven league matches. Man United boss Erik ten Hag had earlier lavished praise on Harry Maguire following his Man of the Match performance in the victory against Sheffield United on matchday 9.

The 30-year-old defender played an instrumental role at the backline alongside Johnny Evan. The duo’s 90 min display restricted Fulham goalless and helped the Manchester side to keep a clean sheet while securing a crucial 1-0 triumph climbing up to the 6th place on the league table. 

Following Maguire’s performance former legendary goalkeeper and football pundit Peter Schmeichel showed praises on the defender.

He said, “For me, the Man of the Match was Harry Maguire. Without him, I don’t see #mufc win this game. He’s become an example to all the players, rising up from adversity – he is undroppable for any manager now.”

Harry Maguire’s mother also tweeted praising his son’s spirit of tackling all the negativity, certifying his spirit of sportsmanship. Club captain Bruno Fernandes voiced in support of the former captain as well.

Maguire credits doctors for overcoming concussion protocol

In the second minute of the 1-0 victory match, Maguire had faced a head injury after colliding with Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz’s shoulder. Despite suffering a cut above his eye, the 30-year-old played the full 90 minutes after undergoing concussion tests conducted by the medical staff, after they gave him the green light to continue the game.

Post-match, Maguire commended club staff, stating, “Obviously, I got a knock really early in the game, but the doc did all the tests. I knew where I was, was answering all the questions, and I completed them, thankfully. If the doc says I’m okay to carry on, I’m always going to carry on.” Moreover, he also denied he was concussed against Fulham.
