As Islam Makhachev defeated Alexander Volkanovski in their much-anticipated bout, the latter went into detail about an accusation that is brought against his octagon opponent.
UFC284 took place at Perth’s RAC Arena, and it was headlined by an explosive octagon bout between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title with scores of 48-47 on two of the three judges’ scorecards and 49-46 on the third.

After the match, the Australian fighter was a guest on The MMA Hour, where he discussed several aspects of the match, including the allegations that Islam had used a prohibited substance before fighting him.
Many people believe that Islam had an excess weight of approximately fifteen pounds the night before the battle, but that he was able to bring it down to 155 pounds by using an IV to rehydrate himself in preparation for the fight. Dan Hooker, Volkanovski’s teammate, also thinks that Islam may have done something with the assistance of a nurse to achieve his ideal weight.

Volkanovski expressed that he was also aware of something like that but was just not absolutely sure if the Dagestani really did this.
”Yeah, 178, 180 [pounds] I think [Islam Makhachev] would’ve been. I heard he gets up to 180, like 83 kilograms close to it. You fill up pretty quickly on the IVs and stuff like that…Maybe that’s a little shot at him.” said Volkanovski.
Later on, The Great challenged the Russian to another bout, and he also threatened to squash Islam if they ever fought in the featherweight division, which is where The Great currently holds the title.
”We fight again and we do this rematch, which…I talked about it, Islam talked about it, UFC’s talking about it, and everyone else is talking about it so I think we can make that happen. I don’t need him to be a featherweight…He can get as big as he wants, IV, whatever he does it doesn’t matter. Watch what happens next time.” Volkanovski further added.
