French striker Anthony Martial, 26, is going through a difficult period since joining Manchester United in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco, but he still remained at the club with the hope of playing at the highest level of European football.
The French player barely got the chance to play for the first team in the last couple of seasons, which was explained through the comments of Anthony Martial on Jose Mourinho that became viral in recent times.
Why were the vigorous comments made regarding Anthony Martial on Jose Mourinho?
Recently United forward Anthony Martial was questioned about two of his past Red Devils coaches, but he had nothing positive to say and the Frenchman has spoken openly about his interactions with Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claiming that the former “disrespected” him and charged Solskjaer with “treason,” but he has only been kind of Louis van Gaal, calling him a “gentleman.”
When Van Gaal signed Martial from Monaco in 2015, he made an impression in his debut season in the Premier League, but since then, his Old Trafford career has been one of unrealized potential and the 26-year-old has seen his fair share of bad luck as well but he entered this new season as the new manager Erik ten Hag’s first-choice striker and was in excellent form throughout preseason, only to sustain an injury that has prevented him from playing for the club at the start of the season.
It is presently uncertain when he will be able to play again, but it appears that he vented some of his fury in an interview with France Football, when he was candid about his former Manchester United coaches.
The France international led United in scoring during the 2015–16 season, but when Mourinho took over as manager the following year, the attacker found it difficult to earn starting minutes on a consistent basis.
On a certain occasion, some heated comments were stated by Anthony Martial on Jose Mourinho, “He disrespected me, directly. He talked about me in the press, little phrases, a bit like he had done with Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.”
The Portuguese manager, who stated in 2018 that the striker lacked “maturity” and that he and some of his Red Devils colleagues acted like “spoilt kids,” is the major target of his ire. He claims that Mourinho’s decision to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic his no. 9 shirt in 2016 harmed him.
