Given his very moderate preseason performance, many NBA experts are worried about Bronny James, the son of famous basketball player LeBron James. Even though Bronny is well-known and gets a lot of media attention, dozens of NBA executives are not sure if he will do well in the league.
There was a lot of anticipation for Bronny James’s NBA debut and potential since he is the son of NBA legend LeBron James. All eyes were on him to see whether he could live up to his famous father’s legacy.
Unfortunately, the USC guard’s performance in the summer league and preseason has disappointed many, leading experts to doubt his chances of making it into the main season.
On ESPN, a Western Conference executive said, “Analytically, if you just had the numbers on a page and had no name attached to it, he (James) doesn’t project in any way, shape or form to be an NBA player.” Other executives on the show agreed with this assessment.
Another executive stated, “He’s not going to embarrass your franchise ever. He’s going to work his (expletive) ass off. Because what LeBron James will never tolerate is any intel that his kid isn’t a hard worker.” Another Eastern Conference scout added, “You’re set up for failure. It’s like, what’s the expectation here?”
It’s pretty interesting that, even though a lot of people are worried, LeBron James doesn’t seem to be bothered at all. He doesn’t think Bronny’s previous summer league numbers are relevant. And when it comes to the preseason, Bronny’s coach is totally backing him up.
LeBron and JJ Redick are not concerned about Bronny James’ stats
During Bronny James’ time with the Lakers in the summer league, he faced heavy criticism, but LeBron James brushed it off, saying, “What he does in the California Classic and Summer League, it doesn’t matter if he plays well and it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play well.”
Even after the preseason, while the community remains skeptical, coach JJ Redick showed no concern about Bronny James. He praised Bronny’s defensive abilities, stating, “The kid, you know, he can do some things defensively at his size that are really unique and can I think turn him into a really disruptive defender”
