HOPE Week honoree Damar Hamlin throws first pitch at Yankees game vs Orioles: “crazy feeling”

The Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin shackled the NFL world following a life-threatening cardiac arrest on the field that necessitates suspending the game against the Bengals. Hamlin named Yankees’ HOPE Week honoree after CPR training

The 24-year-old participated in a CPR training session on Monday at Yankee Stadium as part of Hope Week because he understands the significance of CPR and how it helped save his life. Sarah was the trainer, and he gave the Yankees players instructions on how to teach CPR along with the Bills player and the American Heart Association.

Following the session, the safety shared his story of January 2 when he was nearly dead, and stated the honor was a “crazy feeling”. Moreover, the player urged the training of CPR for all the players. 

“For them to take the time out in the middle of their stretch, to come out here and learn CPR, people seeing figures like them in the community, everyone looks up to the Yankees,” Hamlin told reporters after class was dismissed. “They’re such a staple in history. For people getting to see them come out here and learn CPR, it will have a big trickle effect to the rest of the world that want to get trained.”

Later the team honored him with the President’s Volunteer Service Award prior to starting a four-game series with Baltimore Orioles.

The name of Damar has become a name that almost every football fans know for which he never wanted to be introduced. The supporters will now anticipate his heroic efforts on the field to triumph for his squad as he did to save his life.
