The NBA has fined Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball $100,000 for an offensive comment made after his team’s 115-114 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Interestingly, the fine wasn’t for anything said during the game but for a remark made in a post-game interview, taking a notable sum out of his pocket.
The NBA announced on Sunday that they fined LaMelo Ball the maximum amount permitted by their rules. This happened when a sideline reporter, Shannon Spake, asked Ball about the Hornet’s defense against Giannis Antetokounmpo during the final play.
Ball used an anti-gay word in his answer. Hornets coach Charles Lee said on Sunday that Ball feels very sorry for using what the NBA called an offensive and mean comment.

Players have faced fines before for similar actions. Last season, Cam Thomas from the Brooklyn Nets was fined $40,000 for saying something similar. Ball, who scored 31 points in the game, has not yet commented on the fine.
