The Argentine had a legendary run at Barcelona winning the UEFA Champions League and La Liga on multiple occasions. He also won Ligue 1 with his former club PSG and to top it all off, Lionel Messi lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy last year.
Messi’s career now looks complete and in a rather unexpected move, he joined the American club Inter Miami in July 2023. While many struggled to fathom his new move, massive incentives later came to light that saw the athlete generate massive income.
Lionel Messi reportedly generated almost $300 million in revenue
Recently, a new trend has been spotted in soccer where players join the Saudi Pro League at the end of their careers to make some big cash before retiring. Al-Hilal also offered Lionel Messi a handsome amount of 1.5 billion euros for a 2-year contract. Many expected him to move to the Middle East but in a surprising move, he rejected the deal and made a move to Inter Miami.
Since he joined Inter Miami Lionel has become the highest-paid player of the team. According to a Twitter post by Andrew Petcash, the Argentine earns 55 million dollars before taxes and 31.7 million dollars afterward. Messi’s whole contract at Miami is worth 125 – 150 million dollars.
Apart from this he also generates revenue from his deals with Adidas and Apple. Messi may also have an ownership stake at the club just like the one provided to David Beckham.
Messi so far tearing it up in MLS
Since his arrival at Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has won hearts. He is doing what he was expected to do and the player is surely giving the owners their money’s worth. Messi has scored 11 goals in only 10 appearances and also managed to get three assists to his name.
The Argentine proved himself in the league in his debut match when he scored a free kick that led his team to victory. The player has not stopped since then and continues to do great things for the club.
He was offered the captaincy of the team which he gladly accepted and the team lifted their very first MLS league trophy under Messi’s guidance. The World Cup winner looks happy with his new club and new life in Florida.
