How much was Sean O’Malley’s UFC 292 PPV sales that stunned Aljamain Sterling?

Sean O’Malley achieved something on the night of UFC 292 that former bantamweight champions T.J. Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo couldn’t do. Sugar Sean defeated defending champion Aljamain Sterling via knockout in the second round of the fight.

Aljo was on a nine-fight win streak and was aiming for his 10th win when ‘Sugar’ disrupted his legacy. Sean O’Malley, after dominating the first round of the fight, showed an example of power in the second round. However, for Sterling, the loss was not only shocking but also the other numbers of the fight.

What were Sean O’Malley’s UFC 292 PPV sales?

Many fans were excited to see a big turnaround on the night of August 19 when Sean O’Malley faced defending champion Aljamain Sterling. Sean did beat Sterling, but it’s not just the win-loss tracker, the UFC 292 PPV sale and payout were also points of discussion.

Sean O’Malley responded to Aljo’s disappointment with the pay-per-view earnings. After confirming the numbers with UFC officials, O’Malley tweeted that 570k is the legitimate figure, contrary to what the 34-year-old’s girlfriend is claiming.

‘Sugar’ said, “Henry says Me and Aljo “only” did 350k ppv, according to his girlfriend’s source. I just talked to the UFC, and I heard upwards of 570k… legit no kizzy not making this up heard Aljo vs. Henry did 135k. Also, Henry is 5’2 lol.”

Henry Cejudo was making his return after taking retirement in 2020 at UFC 288 against Aljamain Sterling for the UFC bantamweight championship.

Aljamain Sterling is disappointed by Sean O’Malley’s low PPV sales

The fight at UFC 292, which Sterling accepted against Sean O’Malley, was within the 3-month time frame after fighting at UFC 288. At UFC 288, Aljo claimed on his YouTube channel that he felt more pressure fighting against Henry, but he didn’t feel any pressure against the O’Malley being brought into the octagon. After 4 months, Sterling got the PPV number from his girlfriend, and he looked totally disappointed.

Aljamain Sterling said that while watching the numbers with his girlfriend, he told her that Sean O’Malley is the big pay-per-view star that he was claiming. “I got the pay-per-view numbers, and I and her were going through it, and I’m just like, ‘These are the numbers that this guy was trying to say he’s this big pay-per-view star?’”

Later, he took a dig at the bantamweight champion, saying if he knew what the numbers would have been, he would have waited for the match, first spent a vacation, then put the belt on the line. He also later sent wishes to Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera for his potential bout against the current bantamweight champion.

“I’m just like, ‘Oh my God.’ When I saw the numbers, I literally said to her, ‘If I had any idea this is what the numbers would have been, if I could have predicted that this is what it would have been, my ass would have waited and taken my vacation then.” Via MMA Junkie.

This time, fans will get to see the former champion against Calvin Katter at UFC 300 after 8 months. This will be the featherweight bout for Aljo, as he is making moves in the upward weight class. Conversely, Sean O’Malley is looking for the champion vs. champion bout against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Who do you think should be the ideal match-up for Sean O’Malley? Should it be against someone he suffered his first loss to in MMA, Marlon Vera, or against featherweight champion Volkanovski?
