LeBron James is a force to be reckoned with in the NBA and at 38 years old, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Recently, he revealed a secret weapon that helps him stay on top of his game: his basketball IQ.
On Monday night, James led the LA Lakers to a 140-132 win over the Rockets, putting up impressive numbers and coming close to a triple-double with 48 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds.
After the game, James talked about how his ability to read the game gives him an in-game advantage. He explained that he knew from a young age that he had this ability and that it’s become even more useful as he’s gotten older. He said, “I knew that at a very young age that I had the ability to read the game before the game was even being played or possessions or being able to read plays ahead of time.”
LeBron isn’t just another athlete!
As his athleticism starts to decline, James focuses on expanding his game and using his quick mind to outsmart his opponents. He’s been working on this throughout his career, saying “Early on, it was a lot of just speed and just jumping and figuring it out, and as you get smarter, you say ‘Okay, well teams now know that they can kind of key in on these things so how can I make sure that I’m un-guardable and I can always put myself in a position where I do what I want to do, not what the defense wants me to do?'”
LeBron’s ability to read the game and outsmart his opponents is what sets him apart and makes him one of the best players in the game. He’s always working to improve his craft, saying “I’ve been able to continue to work on my craft and also still keep the mind in it of being able to see plays happen before they happen.” With his basketball IQ and quick mind, LeBron James will continue to dominate on the court.
