The Atlanta Hawks this season are not at their best as they stand in ninth position in the Eastern Conference. The team had been playing pretty average basketball before their three-match winning streak. Even in the winning games, John Collins could not contribute much as he only scored seven, eleven, and seven against the likes of the Pacers, Raptors, and Heat.
With the NBA Trade deadlines inching closer, many believed that the Hawks would trade Collins. However, for John to be traded, someone must show interest in the power forward. Even with the career-lowest performance, the Utah Jazz and the Cleveland Cavaliers have shown their interest in Collins.
Yet the power forward shows no signs of caring- he says he doesn’t “give a damn” about it. Collins earlier spoke to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, where John talked about whether he is thinking about switching teams.
What did John Collins say to Sam Amrick?
Collins told Sam Amick of The Athletic, “I don’t give a damn honestly, you know what I mean?” when asked about his frustrations and whether he would rather remain with the Atlanta Falcons or join a new team.
Afterward, John said, “And when I say I don’t give a damn, it’s just like, man, I’m gonna wake up every day and be positive, and I’m going to go play basketball. If I think about that s–t all day, I’m gonna be a mess. And that’s me trying to preserve my mental [health]. That’s really it.”
Even though Collins has gone through his worst season, he wants to bring his “A” game no matter which team he plays for. His statements are a touch heroic; however, he has to back his words with his performance in the upcoming games. Collins is mentally down in his current form, so his words do make sense.
Whether he can do it remains a big question mark. Only time will tell.
