Barcelona’s Golden Boy Gavi has revealed that he will stay at the club despite rumors of a move away overseas.
Gavi signed a long-term contract with Barcelona in September, but registration complications caused by the club’s severe financial situation stopped the deal from becoming official.
Gavi is now back on his youth team contract and has a condition in his contract that allows him to depart the club for free on July 1 if his new contract is not registered by then.
The uncertainty surrounding his future has opened the door to other suitors, including Chelsea.
According to Sport, manager Xavi informed Gavi that he is an important part of Barcelona’s future. Due to persistent contract concerns, the midfielder was expected to be released in June.
And yet, Barcelona is calm about the situation. They know that the player wants to stay at the club and has no intentions of leaving.
President Joan Laporta recently talked about the rumors of Gavi leaving. He said, “I am convinced that he will continue to be a Barça player. I don’t worry about that. I worry when he enters with that impetus, with that strength, in the plays. Someday… He goes with an enormous force.”
What did Gavi say yesterday?
And now, Gavi himself has now spoken of his decision to stay at the club despite interest from abroad and contract issues.
After the 4-2 win against Espanyol yesterday which saw Barcelona clinch their 27th La Liga title, he spoke to FCBTV. The La Liga title was also the Spaniard’s first-ever league title. He stated Barcelona was the club of his dreams and that he wants to win more titles there.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said, “This is the first title here, this is the club of my dreams — it’s Barça. I hope there will be many more.”

Since breaking into the scene from La Masia at just 17 years old, Gavi has become an integral part of both Xavi’s Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Last year also saw him win the prestigious Golden Boy award for his exploits at such a young age.
This season at the age of just 18, he has made 33 league appearances for the team. He also scored and assisted in the Spanish Super final win against Real Madrid back in January. The player often plays with his heart out which results in him attempting bold moves. He is also regularly criticized for fouling opposition players and being a bit disrespectful.
Although Gavi has guaranteed that he will remain at the club, Barcelona must still determine the teenager’s contract position and will attempt to register him this summer.
