Reacting to being stripped of his UFC lightweight title, Charles Oliveira has insisted that he made weight ahead of his championship title bout against Justin Gaethje.
UFC 274 promised to be a banger, but a lot of the hype around the card has dwelled down after champion Charles “Du Bronx” Oliveria was stripped of his belt after he failed to make weight. The limit of the division of 155 lbs, and Charles Oliveira came in at half a pound heavier.
The UFC is not generally this strict when it comes to non-title fights with the fighters being given a one-pound allowance when they hit the scales. The dynamics are different in title bouts, where it is imperative for the fighters to ensure that they make weight.
The main event will still go ahead, with only Gaethje having the opportunity to win the title, with the belt now considered vacant.
The Brazilian was half a pound over the 155 lbs limit when he stepped on the scales last evening. He was given a further hour to make weight, but couldn’t manage to do so.
Responding after the weigh-ins, Du Bronx said, ” We weighed it the on the UFC scale, and I made the weight. The following morning after I weighed again, I was one kilogram up. I don’t know how that happened because I did not eat, or drink anything that would have added the extra pound. A lot of other fighters have missed weight and it is because of the scale.”

Du Brox now has his work cut out for him, as he has to defeat two opponents in order to regain his belt. He has already defended his title once after beating Dustin Poirier last December.
