With the 99th overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers made an intriguing choice by selecting former Michigan kicker Jake Moody. The team’s coach, Kyle Shanahan, recently offered a ridiculous response to the controversy after the draft became a highly contentious issue.
At the University of Michigan, Moody had a remarkable career, finishing with the most points (355), field goals (69), and field goals of at least 40 yards (17). He was known as the GOAT of Michigan because he was one of the greatest athletes in the history of the Michigans.
What was the response of Kyle Shanahan regarding Moodys’ draft pick?
Since Roberto Aguayo’s selection in the first three rounds, the 23-year-old kicker was the first after the selections. As the highest-rated running back still available, his selection in the third round raised many questions about the team’s and the coach’s decision. Even though the team is currently in a competitive position, the 49ers will need a more productive, healthy stable of running backs in 2023.
Furthermore, Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell have suffered from injuries, and the team gave Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price, two rookies, a small chance during their first full season as professionals.
Consequently, Shanahan received a lot of criticism and trolling after the draft pick, and in that situation, Michael Silver gave him a great idea to resolve the issue by responding in the same manner as the critic.
“After the Niners drafted Michigan’s Jake Moody, HC Kyle Shanahan got texts “from all my friends” around the league making fun of him for taking a kicker in the third round. I suggested that he’d have done the same to them. “Damn right I would have,” he said, laughing,” Silver tweeted.
The team is not upset by the criticism; instead, they believe that selecting the former Michigan kicker was a wise choice. Nevertheless, the HC undoubtedly adopted Silvers’ suggestion and responded in a way silencing critics without directly answering the query.

‘I still can’t believe we didn’t take a running back,” he replied.
As the head coach of the 49ers, the 43-year-old has a 5-2 playoff record and a career record of 39 wins and 42 losses. On June 15, 2020, Shanahan, a head football coach for six years, extended his contract with the 49ers for several years.
