In a week, Aljamain Sterling is scheduled to face Henry Cejudo, one of the greatest UFC fighters ever. In a recent interview, Sterling said he didn’t think Cejudo’s comeback battle would cause such a stir among MMA fans all around the world.
The month’s biggest UFC event is just around the corner, and the clock is ticking. The former flyweight and bantamweight champion and the current bantamweight title holder will square off in the main event of UFC 288 on May 7 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, in just one week from today.
What did Aljamain Sterling say about his battle with Henry Cejudo?
While Triple C has a six-fight winning streak with the most recent match occurring three years ago, Sterling (22-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) is on an eight-fight winning streak. Funk Master, however, acknowledged his surprise at Henry’s bout generating this much interest in the MMA world in a recent interview with ESPN.
“This matchup with Henry, I’m excited for it. At first, I thought no one cared about it, and now I’m just seeing fans are really behind it. They really want to see this matchup, and they think it’s a good test,” said Sterling.
After a three-year hiatus, former double champion Cejudo will make his octagon return. Prior to his comeback, the 36-year-old fighter issued Sterling with a severe warning. In response, The Funk Master also issued a strong warning to the former bantamweight champion.
“I know that he’s been putting in a lot of serious work, but I don’t know if he’s going to be the Henry Cejudo of three years ago – the same speed, he might be a little slower. His reaction time might be slower, and this isn’t a freestyle wrestling match. This is a fistfight with top and bottom control.” Sterling added.
Aljamain, reigning bantamweight champion, claims that for Cejudo’s domain should have been the flyweight weight class. Hence the olympic gold medalist has little chance of beating him and making a miraculous comeback. Sterling believes Cejudo just spent time watching and making funny videos in the last three years which is giving him the confidence to beat Triple C.
The current light-heavyweight champion Aljamain Sterling is on red-hot undefeated streak. Will he spoil Henry Cejudo's return?
