“I’m fighting for gold”: Brandon Royval slams Muhammad Mokaev’s bout challenge with “$38K” fight purse at stake

Brandon Rovyal is currently ranked fourth in the UFC flyweight division. After securing a performance bonus-worthy win in his last outing at UFC Fight Night at Kansas City, Rovyal is on his path to flyweight gold. Being in the top-5, Rovyal is now expected to step up in competition and fight someone like Kai-Kara France for the number one contender.

Rovyal, who is currently 30 received an unexpected call-out from one of the most exciting UFC prospects in recent times, Muhammad Mokaev. Mokaev who is currently healing from a horrific knee injury from his last fight tweeted,

I wanna fight Brendan Royval (ranked number 3) in Abu Dhabi! I feel like you won’t accept but I can offer my fight purse $38,000 to you if you accept this fight! Let’s go!”

Worth mentioning that Mokaev has an unbeaten 10-0-1(NC) record and has had four fight in the UFC. Mokaev who has till now showcased some incredible domination is currently ranked 12th in the 125lbs division. Rovyal was quick to respond to the call-out as he replied,

“I’m fighting for gold and 6 figures next.. not for 38k. Maybe once you stop struggling with unranked opponents, you can add this to your wish list, considering all that lay and praying you do every fight.”

What’s next for Brandon Rovyal?

Rovyal is currently riding high on a three-fight winning streak. His brilliant first round against Matheus Nicolau broke him through the top-5 of the flyweight division and as he himself said, UFC gold is in toughing distance.

Currently ranked at number four, the three fighters ahead of him are, Kai-Kara France, Alexandre Pantoja and former champion Deiveson Figueiredo. While Mexican star Brandon Moreno currently holds the championship.

Brandon Rovyal

As of now Moreno is scheduled to defend his title against Pantoja on July 8th at UFC 290. Kai-Kara France who was on a three-fight win streak lost his last fight against the current champ and hence a fight between him a Rovyal certainly makes more sense.

Figueiredo on the other hand, after losing his title to Moreno announced his decision to move up a weight class. i.e. 135 lbs. So it is safe to assume that, we may see Rovyal squaring off against New Zealander Kai-Kara France in near future.
