In the world of sports, there is a saying that goes, “consistency is key.” This is especially true in basketball, where teams rely on their players to bring their A-game every time they step on the court. However, the Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling with inconsistency lately, and according to Patrick Beverley, their recent move to the Magic is to blame
On the latest episode of The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, former Los Angeles Lakers guard, and current free agent, Patrick Beverley, shared his thoughts on why he believed the team didn’t win more games this season.
“It wasn’t basketball. It wasn’t basketball. It wasn’t basketball. It was other s**t. But other s**t that you really can’t like pin or point out. You know, comes and goes. You know, a little bit here, a little bit there.”
Patrick Beverley’s stint with the Lakers didn’t span a full season, but it provided him with sufficient knowledge to form an understanding of the team’s problems. Although he was unable to identify non-basketball-related concerns, the on-court issues are quite evident.
When co-host Adam Ferrone asked why Beverley thought this was the case, he replied, “The vibes were sometimes on, sometimes off. Inconsistent vibes lead to inconsistent play.”
Despite only spending a short time with the Lakers, Beverley has enough experience to identify the team’s issues. While he couldn’t pinpoint the non-basketball-related problems, he highlighted the team’s poor defense and lack of outside shooting as the glaring on-court issues. So far this season, the Lakers are among the worst teams in the league. In terms of 3-pointers made and 3-point shooting percentage, they are in the bottom five in terms of scoring defense.
As the Lakers head into the 2023 NBA All-Star break, they are currently out of the playoff picture. Even outside the play-in tournament window, with just one game remaining on their schedule. It’s clear that if they want to turn their season around, they will need to address their consistency and work to improve their defense and outside shooting.
Patrick Beverley’s insights on the importance of consistent vibes in basketball are not to be taken lightly. The Lakers’ recent move to the Magic has undoubtedly affected the team’s chemistry, and as a result, their on-court performances have been inconsistent.
