Indiana Makes History with 10 Wins in One Season

The Indiana Hoosiers have made history by achieving their first-ever 10-win season in program history. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers secured a hard-fought 20-15 victory over the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines.

Before Saturday’s game at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana had won its first nine games by large scores and led the country in scoring differential. This time, the game was much closer. After falling down 17-3 at halfway, they battled back to take a narrow lead going into the break.

The Hoosiers’ defense was key, stopping Michigan from getting a first down on their last play to secure the win. It was a nail-biter finish, with Indiana’s defense coming through in the end.

Hoosiers’ senior QB, Kurtis Rourke, led the offense with 17 completions out of 28 attempts for 206 yards, scoring two touchdowns and throwing one interception. Senior running backs Justice Ellison and Ty Son Lawton managed a combined 72 yards on 21 carries.

Curt Cignetti shares thoughts on Indiana’s big 10-0 victory

Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti shared mixed feelings after the team’s historic 10-0 start. In a post-game chat, he showed both pride and concern. “Not many style points there,” Cignetti said. “Not many people banging the drum, saying Indiana ought to be rated higher … and all that good stuff, but the Indiana Hoosiers are 10-0.”

He added, “I’m glad we won. I don’t like the way we played. I’m not happy with the way we played, particularly on offense in the second half, so we’ve got to take a good look at the film Monday and see what happens.”

Cignetti praised the defense but pointed out weaknesses, saying, “But I thought our defense did a number of good things, but they were on the field too long.”
