Is Antonio Brown returning to NFL after Steelers top WR Diontae Johnson injury?

Antonio Brown, the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver hasn’t played since 2022. The wide receiver had a rough NFL journey which stopped on Jan 2, 2022, after which he was released from the Bucs. Since then, no team has even hinted at signing him again.

However, the 35-year-old has recently been giving hints about his possible return to the NFL. Brown has garnered significant attention on the internet as he teased a delusional return to the Steelers which seems somewhat possible now.

Antonio Brown teases possible return to NFL after Steelers’ top WR injury

Antonio Brown has recently teased his potential return to the NFL. He posted some suspicious tweets hinting that he might join the Steelers soon. Brown played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for nine seasons. He made 11, 207 yards and 74 touchdowns. He was a five-time All-Pro selection and seven-time Pro Bowler.

The wide receiver had a good start with the Steelers but in 2019 he was released by the team just a few days before the regular season started. He got into a verbal altercation with the manager of the team. He requested the team himself to release him.

After that, he joined the Patriots in 2019 and after playing one season he moved to the Bucs. With Tampa Bay Buccaneers the wide receiver played for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Since then, Brown hasn’t played for any team. However, he’s always in the news for all the wrong reasons.

But recently the wide receiver posted his picture in a Steelers jersey on X app, formerly known as Twitter. He captioned the picture, ‘Hear me out.’

It created a buzz on social media with fans wondering whether Brown is just being delusional or is he planning to return to the Steelers. After that, he again tweeted, ‘heard the Steelers need a WR,’ after Diontae Johnson, the wide receiver of the team got injured.

Maybe through these tweets, Brown is showing his desire to join the team once again. It could also be that the team is considering signing him again which seems a little possible now as the leading wide receiver of the team is injured. However, there’s no confirmation of this news.

Diontae Johnson injury update: Steelers WR to miss few weeks for injury

Diontae Johnson is one of the leading wide receivers of the Steelers. However, he suffered a Hamstring injury in a recent game against the San Francisco 49ers. He injured his leg in the second quarter of the game and later it was announced that the wide receiver suffered a hamstring injury.

At that time the coach of the team, Mike Tomlin didn’t say anything about the return of Johnson and merely said that the wide receiver was “probably unavailable.”

But Adam Schefter has given an important update on Johnson’s injury. A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday, that the wide receiver will be sidelined for weeks.

It means the team will have to play without Diontae Johnson for the upcoming games. His absence can be very costly for the team as he’s the leading wide receiver of the Steelers, and the possibility of Antonio Brown’s return arises here.

If Johnson will be sidelined for a few weeks, the team will need a wide receiver to replace him and that could be Antonio Brown. However, nothing is confirmed yet, so let’s wait for the official confirmation to find out whether Antonio Brown is seriously delusional, or he’ll finally make a return to his longtime team this year.
