The wrestling community has been rocked by CM Punk’s controversial comments. After a confrontation with Jack Perry occurred behind the scenes, he was fired from All Elite Wrestling over a month ago. Because of his behavior, AEW CEO Tony Khan was worried enough to voice his alarm on national television. Fans were hoping for Punk’s return to the ring, but WWE officials shot those hopes down.
There have been rumors that CM Punk attended a recent IMPACT Wrestling show in Chicago and spoke with the talent backstage. This has fueled speculation about his future in wrestling and a potential return to the ring.
CM Punk seen in TNA backstage
Many people have speculated that CM Punk, after leaving AEW, may return to WWE where he served from 2006 until 2014. According to the most recent reports, WWE has rejected the possibility of Punk returning at this time.
Recently, on October 22nd, CM Punk was seen backstage during a taping of Impact Wrestling on AXS TV. To avoid being caught by the press, he came just before the tapings started. Before joining AEW, he made a trip to see Impact Wrestling in April. The purpose of his trip is unclear, although it may have something to do with his future.
The rumor that IMPACT Wrestling wanted to sign CM Punk because Ace Steel joined the company was unfounded. Steel was of interest to the corporation before Punk’s departure from AEW, at least that much is public knowledge. Since the altercation with Tony Khan and Jungle Boy in late August, CM Punk has been absent from the professional wrestling arena. Those who enjoyed his previous efforts are rooting for him to come back strong.
Former WWE talent assesses CM Punk’s AEW firing
Especially during his tenure with AEW, CM Punk caused quite a ruckus in the professional wrestling world. His enthusiasm for AEW quickly faded once he became part of the “Brawl Out Incident.” Because of this and his confrontation with Jack Perry, among other things, he was let go.
During a K&S Wrestle Fest virtual signing, Eric Bischoff, a former WWE talent discussed his opinions on the Punk issue. After Punk’s first ban from AEW, Bischoff attacked the methods he had used to garner popularity.
He said, “In terms of the way he handled himself professionally? I think it was p**s poor, but I can’t say I blame him, because I think he put up with a lot of s**t in his environment that he shouldn’t have ever had to put up with. [I] had some serious issues [with] the way he tried to get himself over when he came back to AEW.”
