Antonio Conte is one of the most decorated and successful managers in football. The 54-year-old last managed a Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur. Conte’s resume includes managing prominent clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Italy’s national team.
The Serie A champions Napoli are struggling this season under the management of new French manager Rudi Garcia, who joined the club this summer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr. However, Napoli is looking to replace him with Conte.
Is Antonio Conte linked with a move to Napoli?
The renowned Italian coach Antonio Conte has been out of work for the past six months after getting sacked by Spurs in March this year, and it is reported that Serie A giants Napoli have approached the former Inter Milan manager to replace Rudi Garcia.
Napoli last season had a historic scudetto triumph, clinching their 3rd Serie A title following a long wait of 33 years led by their Italian boss Luciano Spallett, who stepped down from the managerial position to take charge of the Italian national team with Azzuri as their new coach.
The Serie A Champions appointed Rudi Garcia as their replacement for Spallett; however, his brief term with Napoli is under threat due to the club’s poor form and his strained relationship with fellow star players like Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Since Garcia’s future in Naples seems uncertain as he is under immense pressure and reportedly could terminate his contract, Napoli board officials are also not happy with the French coach.
Reports indicate that the Serie A giants have initiated formal contact with Antonio Conte and will hold preliminary discussions with the former Chelsea manager. However, no final decision has been made at this moment
Antonio Conte talks about his future
While Conte is currently on a break from his managerial duties, he has confirmed being linked with a prominent club. Despite this, he maintains that his focus is on enjoying his off-season with his family rather than taking up new football endeavors.
“Conte posted a story on his Instagram account, stating: ‘I hear insistent transfer rumors that link me to important clubs, but I reiterate that for now there is only the desire to continue to enjoy my family.'”
Despite Conte’s statement, Napoli is keen to monitor Garcia’s performance at the club this season. They are actively looking for potential replacements, and the former Chelsea boss remains at the top of their priority list.
