Following the legendary quarterback Tom Brady’s retirement from the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes seems to be ‘en route’ to becoming the next GOAT of the league after winning two Lombardi trophies in the last four seasons. Besides Mahomes, his coach Andy Reid also sent shockwaves with his incredible guidance on the field.
Recently, a former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback who played under Andy during his career spoke highly of his former mentor’s coaching abilities and impact on the game, hailing him as the greatest coach in the league.
Michael Vick raises eyebrows with Andy Reid claim
During a recent appearance on ex-Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s “It Needed To Be Said” podcast, the former quarterback Michael Vick shared his candid remarks on his former coach while mentioning his constant success in the Championship Games.
Mahomes squad became a dominant force in the AFC under the veteran coach’s guidance as they grabbed the AFC Championship Game in each of the last five seasons.
“I was actually thinking this year like, after Andy won the Super Bowl, he only got two, but he went to like four or five NFC Championship Games every year y’all was in the AFC Championship Game,” he said.
TB12 and the New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick has made a golden dynasty in the league but the QB argued Belichick witnessed a successful career only with one franchise whereas the Chiefs coach continued his phenomenal track record of success both in Philadelphia and Kansas City.
Pats coach also holds the record of being the first NFL coach to win over 100 games with two different franchises this past season.
“He might be the greatest coach of all time. You don’t have to win championships to be considered. You know, I understand Belichick and Brady and that whole dynamic. But coach [Reid] did it in Philly, and then he doing it in KC. I’m always shout out coach like I love that man to death; like for real literally I do anything for him,” he added.
When did Andy Reid join the Chiefs?
Reid was hired by the Chiefs in 2013 after his 14 seasons career in the Eagles and didn’t have to look back since, turning the Missouri franchise into Super Bowl regulars in the league.
The veteran coach headed to his NFL coaching career with Aaron Rodgers’ former team Green Bay Packers in 1992 as an assistant offensive line and tight ends coach and was later promoted to the team’s quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach.
He later joined Philly as a head coach in 1999 and compiled a 130-93-1 record with the franchise throughout his thirteen-year tenure, albeit he couldn’t bring any Super Bowl title in Philadelphia and was out of their roster following the 2012 NFL season.
What years did Reid go to the Super Bowl?
During his prolonged career, Andy won three Super Bowl titles so far. The current Chiefs coach won his first championship in 1997 with the Packers by defeating the New England Patriots 35-21 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
The 65-year-old won his first Championship title as head coach with the Chiefs in 2020 and his second title with the franchise came in the 2022 season after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium. By this, he became the 14th HC in the history of the NFL to lift the Lombardi trophy.
With his incredible offensive schemes and consistent success, Reid has established himself as one of the most accomplished coaches in the national football league, and his name remains firmly entrenched in the conversation of the greatest coaches to ever grace the sidelines.
