Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski will square off in the octagon on February 12 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Current lightweight championMakhachev will defend his title against Alexander Volkanovski, the reigning featherweight champion.
Makhachev’s first title fight was against Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in October 2022. He won the fight decisively, making it his 12th victory for the promotion and extending his unbeaten streak to eight years.
A few days prior to the super fight, Islam spoke with ESPN MMA reporter Carlos Contreras Legaspi. During their discussion, Islam revealed his strategy for beating The Great in their impending bout.
“Honestly, I want to knock him out. Everybody says Islam is a grappler or wrestler. But I want to show people my striking. He’s a short guy, and I really believe I can knock him out.” said Makhachev.

Volkanovski, Islam’s next fighter, has experience competing at the welterweight, lightweight, and featherweight weight classes. The Australian, who has won twelve matches in a row, is going to the octagon to fight the current lightweight champion for the chance to become a double champion.
However, Islam wants to remind Alexander Volkanovski that he is the undisputed lightweight champion and that no one, not even the Australian, can beat him because he is from a different division and this is not his domain. The Russian will guarantee that power is not equal in this division, and this will be obvious to his opponent.
