Conor McGregor’s much-anticipated return might be slightly different than fans have been expecting as his long hiatus is seemingly coming to an end. The Irish man suffered a severe leg injury after his fight against Dustin Poirier all the way back in 2021.
Now the ‘Notorious’ may be coming back to work as a coach for the TUF series under the UFC banner.
In a recent Instagram post, the ‘Mystic Mac’ said, “This is a snap from the original ultimate fighter house. Where I coached vs Urijah Faber. This photo was just before the show tho. It was right before I won my first world title beating Urijah teammate Chad Mendes around. I then went on to coach the famous fight show straight after the fight.”
“With a big black eye and a gash, my tricolor, and my new and first-ever UFC gold belt, I waltzed into the notorious fight gym in Las Vegas. The slickest suits and shouts the show had ever seen before. On top of the silverware. And I coached my team to victory. Crazy. Some journey. I have just been offered to coach this role again. I like it. It is full immersion that is needed.” he concluded.
Interestingly enough, Conor wasn’t scheduled to fight at the end of his first season as a coach for TUF back in 2015.
This time he has been hyping up his comeback with big promises. But one has to wonder how a washed-up Conor is going to perform if he didn’t even fight after the first TUF appearance while he was still in his prime!
One of ‘Mystic Mac’s all-time biggest rivals, Khabib Nurmgomedov has also been willing to come back for a TUF season. ‘The Eagle’ has called out his adversary Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson for a coaching-only season.
While fans would love to see McGregor and Khabib run it back, the animosity and skill difference is so vast that it will likely never happen.
Dana has hinted at a potential matchup against Michael Chandler but this new turn of events could postpone that fight indefinitely.
Who do you want to see the brash Irish come back against?
