‘It’s must-win there is no doubt’ Daniel Cormier believes Jorge Masvidal has to overcome Gilbert Burns at UFC 287

Daniel Cormier gives some inspiring words of encouragement to Jorge Masvidal just before the bout that will go down as the most significant of his career.

Jorge Masvidal has marked April 8 as a significant date on his calendar because, after an extended absence from action, he is slated to take part in the main event of UFC 287: Pereira versus Adesanya.

After suffering three straight defeats at the hands of Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman, Jorge Masvidal will be participating in the welterweight bout against Gilbert Burns in an effort to go back on the winning track.

In the main event of UFC 244, Jorge, currently ranked number 13 in the welterweight division, prevailed over Nate Diaz to claim the BMF championship. The American fighter has been competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship for the past ten years, during which time he won ten of his 19 bouts and lost nine of them.

Concerned about Jorge’s current form and next fight, Daniel Cormier voiced his concerns. In an episode of the DC & RC podcast, Cormier discussed his thoughts toward Gamebred.

The UFC legend claims he has no idea why Gamebred agreed to this fight, given how crucial it is to the future of Gamebred’s career. Jorge is now ranked 13th in his division, while Burns, his octagon opponent, is ranked 6th.

”If he wins, he exceeds expectations. If he doesn’t, it’s something that was supposed to happen,” Cormier continued. “It’s a must-win. There is no doubt about it,” said Cormier.

DC did not feel like withholding anything from Masvidal about what would happen if he lose his fourth fight in a row. The UFC analyst threw a wrench into the 38-year-old’s career by speculating on the possible outcomes of this fight.

”You win or you go back to the place prior. You go back to that place where you’re fighting guys like Al Iaquinta and guys like Michael Chiesa… Not the Colby Covingtons, the Kamaru Usmans, and the Gilbert Burns’ of the world… He’s gotta get it done… It’s do or die.” Cormier further added.

Gilbert, Masvidal’s opponent, debuted in the UFC in 2014 and has gone 13-5 since then. At UFC258 the Brazilian was knocked out by Kamaru Usman in the championship bout, but he came back to win over Stephen Thompson at UFC258.
