The debate on where Lionel Messi will be playing next season continues as Paris Saint Germain boss Christophe Galiter speaks up on the 7 times Ballon d’Or winner’s future.
The 2022 World Cup Champion’s current contract with the Parisian side will be expiring at the end of this season. After a successful 2022 World Cup run, the 35-year-old’s return to Paris has not really been fruitful. Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League round of 16, and Messi failed to provide any impact in both legs of the game.
Speculation that Messi would not re-sign with PSG after their elimination from the Champions League began after the club’s disappointing performance in the tournament. Recent rumors suggest that Leo might make a fairytale return to FC Barcelona. There are also speculations about him joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi League.
Not long ago, a number of outlets reported that Messi and PSG had agreed to extend his current contract verbally. However, new rumors emerge on a regular basis, suggesting that the deal may not have made as much progress as the media report.
What did PSG Manager say about Lionel Messi?
Amidst the rumors, PSG manager Christophe Galtiar spoke about Messi’s future with the Parisians. According to Fabrizio Romano, Galtier said, “It’s still too early to speak about Messi’s contract extension. I know that Leo, the management and the president discuss a lot. On Leo to be here next season, I repeat: it’s the will of each other. Messi is happy here.”
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, has been sighted in multiple places in recent times. He has reportedly met up with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, and he was recently spotted in a hotel in Riyadh, where he allegedly met with two men close to the Saudi royal family. All of these are indications that he might be looking for options for Messi’s potential future destination.
