The Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant got a two-game suspension already, and the NBA is still investigating his notorious Instagram live with the gun incident.
This is nothing new for the NBA’s history of players who misused guns; as a former NBA professional, Gilbert Arenas had his fair share of experience. Gilbert was suspended for the rest of the season for his action while playing for Washington Wizards.
Recently, after the video went viral and Morant became a person of interest, this former professional took an odd step to the youngster’s side.
What did Gilbert Arenas say defending Ja Morant?
On his podcast, Gil’s Arena, the 41-year-old shared an unexplored area of Ja’s defense, said, “When we young, we do stupid sh*t. I’m the owner? … I’m gonna do what every owner does: pretend I don’t see it.”

“Just grow up a little bit faster… You got to put Ja around somebody who’s been the same way and actually got out of it safely,” Arenas concluded.
The statement is quite normal coming from any sensible person. However, when it comes from Arenas, the fans might have felt amused as the player got suspended for bringing a gun into the locker room, ending in a western movie showdown.
Moreover, the point guard played 12 years in NBA, achieving the all-star honor three times and being the NBA’s most-improved player in 2003. Furthermore, after that firearm incident, he couldn’t contribute much to his career and had to move to the Chinese basketball league.
Whatever it should be a real assurance amid enormous negativity around the young Ja, Gilbert should be praised for his unique point of perception. However, the history of Morant doesn’t support him much; he should take it as a real lesson for the rest of his life.
