Jayden Daniels Suffers Rib Injury In 40-7 Victory Against Panthers

The Washington Commanders beat the Carolina Panthers 40-7 on Sunday, but quarterback Jayden Daniels had to leave the game because he injured his ribs. With this win, they have marked their first 5-2 start since 2008 and their first 3-0 home record since 2005. However, concerns still exist over Daniels’ fitness to participate in future games.

Daniels, who is a front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year, made a strong start with a 46-yard run on the first play. That’s when his knee got hurt. It might have happened when he ran 46 yards on a read option but was awkwardly tackled by Panthers safety Lonnie Johnson Jr.

After Austin Seibert’s field goal, Jayden Daniels went to the medical tent. He couldn’t keep playing because of the pain and had to leave the game. He returned after halftime dressed in street clothes and waved to the fans.

Then, Commanders’ backup quarterback Marcus Mariota stepped in and led the team to victory, throwing two touchdown passes. Dante Fowler added a 67-yard pick-six to seal the win. The latest injury update on 23-year-old Jayden Daniels brings some good news, as the report is positive overall.

Jayden Daniels’ injury is not serious

Early reports suggest no long-term damage, but Jayden Daniels’ status for upcoming games is still uncertain as he undergoes more tests. The Commanders will face the Chicago Bears next week, and Coach Dan Quinn shared that further evaluation on Monday will give a clearer picture of Daniels’ injury.

Quinn said, “We took him to the tent. The next step is we’re going to take him inside and get images there, and he’ll do some more images (Monday). That’s the process that it goes through. The good news, it was really clear, this is where it’s at.”

If Daniels can’t play, the team will rely on the backup quarterback to keep their momentum going.
