Brock Purdy, who has long been called Mr. Irrelevant, is now soaring high in the NFL world. The quarterback is not only playing very well but also getting highly appreciated by fellow teammates and other great NFL personalities.
Recently, Aaron Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, also expressed his admiration for Brock Purdy’s performance as the 49ers’ starting quarterback. Rodgers is also one of those few people who have confidence in Purdy’s talents.
Rodgers lauds 49ers’ Purdy for exceptional performance
The Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show, where he shared his views about the 49ers quarterback.
Rodgers praised Brock Purdy‘s accomplishments and work and also shared that he is also a fan of the 49ers QB. “I’m a fan, for sure. I think he’s done some great things,” Rodgers said.
He acknowledged that some people tried to downplay the QB’s success by attributing it to the team’s coaching and weapons.
“I think people always have to add some kind of caveat,” Rodgers said. “Like Kyle is such a great play-caller, and he’s got CMC, and Deebo, and Kittle and all these guys. At some point, I think some of that’s going to die down. They’re going to realize Brock is a pretty damn good player. It’s hard to play in this league.”
The four-time NFL MVP also praised the decision-making and high-level throwing abilities of Purdy.
“Brock has done some great things. I watched a game a couple of weeks ago, and I thought he made three or four really high-level throws. Back shoulder throws, tight window throws, and then a couple of look-offs. So I have nothing but praise for Brock and the way he’s played.”
Rodgers predicted that over time, people would recognize Purdy’s talent beyond the team’s supporting factors.
If one of the best quarterbacks in the league is that impressed by Brock Purdy it means no one can stop him from reaching new heights of success. The 49ers QB is already working very hard and these words of encouragement from Rodgers will help him to stay determined.
Why is Brock Purdy considered Mr. Irrelevant?
Brock Purdy has been considered Mr. Irrelevant since the 2022 NFL draft, when he was the last pick of the team. Whenever a player is selected at the very end or if there’s not much need for him but the team still picks him, such players are considered irrelevant.
Purdy was the 262nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and at that time, the 49ers already had quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. The team still drafted him and placed him on the third chart. Therefore, he is considered Mr. Irrelevant.
However, his exceptional performances during practice and training camps compelled the team to select him on the 53-man roster. After that, he has been an exceptional part of the team.
This season, the starting quarterback of the 49ers, Trey Lance, got injured. Therefore, Brock Purdy was then made the starting QB of the team. Purdy, who started as Mr. Irrelevant, has now become a leading quarterback for the 49ers. Despite being the last pick and facing a challenging situation, Purdy’s toughness and willingness to make plays impressed his teammates and Aaron Rodgers.
