Can we consider Jon Jones the GOAT? The light-heavyweights’ past is infested with controversies, including accusations of steroid use which is why some fans refuse to give him the highly coveted moniker. But former two-division champ and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo does not seem to have much doubt on his mind.
In his post-fight reaction video, Cejudo declared, “Jon Jones did what he had to get done. He executed the game plan, did very, very well. He was a little off balance, but other than that, his leg kicks, the way he delivered his takedowns, the way he was able to have that tenacity to be able to control a guy like Ciryl Gane and how he did it… Jon Jones just cemented himself as the greatest of all time.”
He further added, “No more excuses, no more, no more [Georges] St-Pierre, no more anybody. His name is Jon Jones and he is the greatest pound-for-pound fighter, the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.”
Can Henry Cejudo replace Jon Jones as the Goat?
Henry says all these words of praise, yet he is the front-runner in the list of fighters who could replace ‘Bones’ as the GOAT. Not only has the king of cringe managed to secure the Olympic gold, but he also became a two-division champ. He defeated opponents like Demetrious Johnson and T.J. Dillashaw to capture the Flyweight and Bantamweight titles, which is a huge feat.
Now that Henry is older, cutting to such a low weight can be tough for him. But there is still the featherweight division which seems well within his reach. Currently, ‘Triple C’ is scheduled to fight Aljamain Sterling for the Bantamweight title. Should he manage to win that fight, a move up seems very possible.
Volkanovski lost his recent bout against Makhachev but managed to put up a convincing performance. Cejudo could be the one to decisively defeat the Aussie, become a three-division champion, and compete for the GOAT status.
Do you think Henry will fight for that third belt? Let us know in the comments.
