UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has always been a hot topic in the MMA field. Though “Bones” clarified that he would be interested in facing the people’s heavyweight GOAT (greatest of all time) Stipe Miocic, many fighters are trash-talking to secure a title shot at least and asking Jon to rethink his next fight.
After winning the heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane this year, Jones has consistently been part of discussions about who will be next for the heavyweight champ. However, in the absence of Jon Jones, many heavyweight fights have taken place, and numerous contenders have tried to capture the attention of the reigning champion.
Jon Jones hilariously claps back at Tom Aspinall
Recently, at UFC 295, Tom Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight title against Sergei Pavlovich via knockout in under 70 seconds. He is the first from UK soil to hold the UFC heavyweight title, and since then, he has been garnering lots of hype as one of the big prospects in the UFC heavyweight division.
After the exit of Francis Ngannou back in the year start, Jones looked more interested in the Stipe Miocic fight. However, Jon Jones got some reply for the new interim champion, who questioned the ability of the UFC heavyweight champion.
Jones replied, “I’ve faced the absolute toughest competition this world had to offer for 15 years now. During camp for a title defense I sustained a major injury that required surgery for the first time in my career. Now I have newcomers requesting I get my championship stripped. Zero wins over legends, zero title defenses and already thinking you can call the shots to Dana, that’s hilarious. In my 15 year career I have seen so many guys who are supposed to be the next big thing. There’s ever only been one Jon Jones, never forget that.”
What did Tom Aspinall say about Jon Jones UFC title?
After recently winning the title, Tom Aspinall seemed more interested in having the actual championship in his hands, suggesting to the UFC to vacate the title. While talking to Michael Bisping, Aspinall said, “I think Jon Jones should be stripped of the title, to be honest, because everyone else does when they get injured like that,” Aspinall continued, “I don’t see why he’s still got it; I don’t understand that. I should be the real champion right now,” via The Sportster.
To this, Jon Jones made the clear statement that Aspinall need to show his worth first before approaching the current champion. Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic was the main event of UFC 295 but Jon Jones pulled out due to injury which rival Daniel Cormier thought is not that serious. According to sources Jon Jones will be out of action till mid 2024.
