Jon Jones’ stunning revelation of nearly denying UFC 285 vs Ciryl Gane leaves fans in utter shock

Before UFC 285 got ‘accidentally’ revealed, there were a lot of speculations regarding the return of Jon Jones. The former Light-heavyweight champ not only came back but he pretty much ran through his opponent seemingly effortlessly. So when ‘Bones’ revealed details about nearly not agreeing to this fight, fans were naturally shocked.

During the post-fight presser, the veteran discussed how he patched up his old injury, “I used a different tap. I usually use a certain brand of tape. I’ll give them a shoutout, ‘War Tape.’ I feel like it’s just a lot stickier. I used the UFC’s tape tonight and as soon as my body started to sweat, the tape was sliding all over the place, so I made almost like a little cast around my toe that linked down to the middle of my foot so that the tape wouldn’t slide off my toes.”

Next, he details how the fight nearly got canceled, “When I got out there, the commission was like, ‘You can’t tape your feet.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, I’ve always taped my feet. I’m not going to compete if I can’t tape my toes. I just won’t do it. I want everyone to know that in the future, so thank God we didn’t have a disaster out there tonight.”

Should Jon Jones continue to fight with his old toe injury?

Jon sustained a serious injury all the way back in UFC 159 against Chael Sonnen. Ever since he has fought many tough opponents and performed rather nicely despite the lingering issue. The performances against Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes may not have been so impressive but the toe does not seem to be the factor responsible.

Some may argue the heavyweight title fight ended too early cause Ciryl seemed scared, star-struck, and confused from the very first second. Stipe Miocic is a more experienced and mature fighter so Jones should ‘Stay on his toes’ (get it?)

Currently, Stipe and Jon are expected to fight in July.
