Jon Moxley calls for change in AEW after being sent to “f***in’ outer space for minutes

Jon Moxley is one of the most hardcore wrestlers to ever step into the squared circle as he is well known to put his body on the line and leave his all in the ring. His wrestling style is an art form that has been lost in the annals of time, as this hardcore form of wrestling was popularized by ECW.

AEW has provided a substantial alternative to WWE and is notably different in terms of presenting a wrestling show that is not PG. However, Jon Moxley has called for changes after a recent incident he was involved in.

Jon Moxley addresses his concussion

Jon Moxley defeated Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship in the main event of All Out in Chicago. The match was well received by fans and critics, making it a strong contender for match of the night. Moxley continued to be a fighting champion, defending his title weekly.

However, it was a shock to everyone when he lost his title to Rey Fenix at Dynamite: Grand Slam. During the match, a move was botched, causing Rey Fenix to drop Jon Moxley on his head, resulting in a concussion. The match had to be improvised on the fly, leading to Rey Fenix winning the belt, much to the surprise of the fans in the arena.

Moxley talked about the incident and was quoted, “I just kept getting progressively more lost and couldn’t figure out where the f*** I was,” he said, “Then I had this moment of clarity, ‘Oh, I’m f’ed up. I gotta get the f*** out of here.”

He was checked on by his Blackpool Combat Club pals Claudio Castignoli and Wheeler Yuta after the match with Renee Paquette. The incident did put him out of action for a while but his shenanigans on commentary at WrestleDream were loved by everyone. He’s back in action and also re-signed with AEW a while ago.

Moxley calls for change in AEW

AEW is known to provide a less PG alternative to WWE, and this is evident in the content they produce on a weekly basis. F-bombs are frequently dropped, and nearly every other match includes the presence of blood, which is strictly prohibited in WWE, where wrestlers can be fined for bleeding.

Another controversial issue in AEW was direct chair shots to the head, which can lead to long-term damage, but they have now been banned. Nevertheless, AEW is considered troublesome due to occasional freak incidents and numerous injuries resulting from unsafe and overly enthusiastic spots.

Jon Moxley has called for safeguards in professional wrestling as every athlete stepping in the ring is putting their body on the line. He was quoted, “Maybe a really experienced wrestler and a really experienced doctor, who are trained to see signs of that sh, are watching it on a separate feed,” he explained, before justifying why they couldn’t be ringside, “Even if they have a doctor close to ringside, what if the guy f*ing spills outside the ring? He doesn’t see that.”

Jon Moxley compared the safeguards to American Football and added, “As soon as the doctor sees a sign of somebody being concussed, he just hits the f***ing red button … No matter how much time is left. No matter if it’s on live TV. It’s just over, and you figure it out from there.”
