Jordan Poole ready to embrace new role with Wizards after surprising trade: “Kind of prepared to get traded”

Shooting/Point Guard Jordan Poole of the Wizards spoke with the media on Saturday and talked about the transaction that got him from the ‘Dubs’ to Washington Wizards. The Golden State Warriors selected Jordan right at the outset of the NBA Draft 2019. Before playing a noteworthy part in the Warriors player’s lineup beginning in 2021, he was given tasks for two campaigns in the G-League.

Yet before they made it to the NBA Finals this past season, they were eliminated for the first time under Steve Kerr and Steph ‘The Golden Boy’ Curry. The GSW dealt Jordan Poole and earned picks to the draft of the Wizards as a result of their early elimination.

Jordan Poole ready to embrace new role with Wizards

Jordan Poole was traded to the Wizards in a mega-deal that brought Chris ‘The CP3’ Paul to the Warriors, despite Golden State GM Mike Dunleavy’s assurances that Poole would stay with the team for the entirety of his four-year agreement just a few days before.

In return for Chris, the Wizards also received Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and Ryan Rollins, a protected 2030 1st-round selection, a protected ’27 2nd-round selection, and two protected ’30 third-round picks. In October 2022, Jordan signed a four-year, $128M agreement with the ‘Dubs’, who dealt with him before the contract’s first year.

Poole’s contract runs through the 2026–2027 season, and he will earn $27.45M in that duration. He is expected to play a bigger role in Washington, where he will try to team up with Kyle ‘The Big Game Kuz’ Kuzma, who also renewed his contract with the team in free agency this offseason for four years.

Poole admits anticipating a trade from the Warriors

Jordan Poole said that he was “kind of prepared” to be traded during the offseason when speaking candidly about the move. “I talked to my agent. Draft day, you know, a lot of moves happen on draft day. Kind of was preparing that something would happen,” stated Poole, through J. Dumas. “Got a call that the trade went down later that day, later on draft night. It is what it is.”

In addition to being a highly-skilled mid-range shooter, Poole is an expert at finishing at the rim. And oftentimes he cuts to the basket quite effortlessly while utilizing his ball-handling mastery and swiftness. “Poole Party’s” breakthrough season was 2021–22, in which he shot 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 44.8 percent from the field while averaging 18.5 points per game.
