Jose Mourinho brutally roasts Tottenham for having ‘empty trophy room’ over his sacking ‘two days before a final’

Jose Mourinho has been enjoying a free run in front of the microphone recently as the Portuguese manager targets to roast his former club Tottenham Hotspurs, just days after taking a sly dig at rival Pep Guardiola. Spurs fans need to look away as soon as possible, as ‘The Special One’ leaves a savage remark for his former club.

The former Chelsea boss was appointed as the manager of London rivals Tottenham in November 2019, but was sacked in his second season at the club after Tottenham failed to win any silverware and played a very defensive style of football. However, it seems like Mourinho has not forgotten his sacking, which happened two days before their League Cup final.

Jose Mourinho savagely attacks Tottenham

Although Spurs were bang average during Jose Mourinho’s tenure in North London, the ‘Special One’ did get them into a final in his second season.

However, Mourinho was sacked just a couple of days before the EFL Cup final, which left not only Mourinho but the football world in shock. The current Roma manager has won with every club he has managed in his career, apart from Spurs.

While talking to John Obi Mikel in his Obi One Podcast, Mourinho brutally roasted Spurs for his sacking. Mourinho said, “This was a club that, has an empty trophy room, then sacks me 2 days before a final, I mean, come on”.

He further added, jokingly, “Tottenham have never won for 50 years. I don’t remember when. I am two days before a final and I couldn’t do the final. It’s the one which doesn’t smell well”.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs stint

Tottenham Director Daniel Levy turned to Mourinho after sacking Mauricio Pochettino in 2019, hoping to take a shift from project managers to serial winners in dreams of winning silverware for the first time since 2008.

However, that was not the case, as Mourinho’s trademark “Park the Bus” football failed at Tottenham. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted Mourinho’s first season, where his team finished sixth. In his second season, Mourinho recorded impressive wins, most notably the 6-1 victory over Manchester United and a North London derby win against Arsenal.

Spurs had an impressive EFL Cup campaign in 2020–21 under Jose Mourinho, advancing to the final and eliminating sides like Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who’ve been an unstoppable force in domestic football since the 2017–18 season, was the other finalist. Despite a decent run, Mourinho was eventually sacked as Spurs were eliminated early in the Europa League.

In a press conference earlier this year, Mourinho admitted to not having ‘a connection’ with Tottenham, like he has with all the other clubs he has managed.

Does Jose Mourinho still have it in his tank to manage a big team again? Let us know what you think.
