Players are often seen leaving their clubs to join another side. Though sometimes the fans are happy to see their favorite player move on towards greater things, there are some scenarios where the footballer is termed a traitor. Romelu Lukaku has now been getting some hate from Inter Milan fans after the Belgian decided to make a move to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma this season.
Romelu Lukaku will face his former club on Serie A matchday 10, and he is sure to get a hostile reception. Club boss Jose Mourinho, who may be moving to Real Madrid in the next season, has also talked about the issue, and the Portuguese manager is surprised.
Mourinho addresses Romelu Lukaku situation
After helping his team reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League last year, Romelu Lukaku was once again loaned out by Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea. The 30-year-old decided to ditch Inter Milan and join AS Roma instead. Lukaku’s involvement in a permanent move to Juventus only made the fans angrier, who are now criticizing the striker.
Jose Mourinho talked about Romelu Lukaku’s situation, and the manager was surprised to see that the forward meant so much to Inter fans. “Lukaku will play. It’s a very difficult and important match; he is important for us, especially without [Paulo] Dybala and [Lorenzo] Pellegrini. Lukaku must play. I didn’t know he was so important in Milan, because of what he did—winning the Scudetto, two cups—200 players in Inter have won a Super Cup,” he said.
“Afterwards, it is interesting to understand why if Lukaku goes from Inter to Roma to help his coach, it is a drama, while in the past [Fabio] Cannavaro went from Inter to Juve without problems. [Christian] Vieri, no problem; Romelu at Roma is a surprise because I didn’t think he would be in the hearts of the Inter fans,” he further added.
Lukaku face former team Inter in Serie A matchday 10
Romelu Lukaku is now set to face his former club on October 29 in a Serie A match. Inter Milan fans will surely not hold back in cussing at the striker, but the 2022–23 Champions League runner-up needs to be calm and respect his old club.
Inter Milan are currently at the top of the Serie A table, with 22 points in their bag. Roma, on the other hand, is way behind Milan; the club holds 7th place with 14 points, which is very small when compared to their opponents.
It looks like Roma may have to face defeat, but it will be fun to see Romelu go against his former club.
