José Mourinho is known for making his press conference talks interesting. Recently he criticized his own team Roma’s fans for booing their own players in a win over Verona. This comes at a time when there are rumors that the ex-Chelsea manager may return to the English club.
Roma got a 1-0 victory over Verona yesterday thanks to Ola Solbakken’s strike just before half time. At half time, fans of Roma booed their own players. Mourinho at full time, snapped back saying the Roma fans need to give more support and said that boing only worsens the team.
His statement after the game was,
“People don’t give the team everything it deserves. Andrea Belotti deserved the goal for the match he played, but I can’t be happier than that for the group. People don’t give enough credit to this team for what they are doing in these conditions. And if they don’t understand them, there are problems.”
“You can’t boo a boy because he loses a ball. Someone like Bove should be carried in the arms of the fans, he loves Roma more than them. When I arrived, he was going on loan to Serie C, today he plays as a starter. When fans talk about our right-backs, whoever plays, they can’t always think of Cafu or Maicon. I don’t need nice words, but my players do.”
Jose Mourinho has some big praise for Edoardo Bove (20):

“We won today with a small piece of the Curva. I have to be criticized, but I have to protect my boys because they deserve more.”
Roma’s victory over Verona allowed them to move back to the third position in the Seria A table. Forward Tammy Abraham limped off early in the game frustrating their fans. Stars Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini are already injured putting Roma and Mourinho in worry.
The Portuguese manager seems to be tired of his job at Roma after winning the European Conference League last season. His latest comments may further alienate him from his club’s fans. While his comments could be an attempt to help his players, he may be misunderstood by the fans, something which is very common.
Following Chelsea’s loss to last-placed Southampton, many have called for Graham Potter to be sacked. It is being said that Mourinho may be called back to Stamford Bridge where he had delivered three Premier League titles. Only time will tell whether Mourinho decides to ditch the red of Rome for the blue of London.
