Jose Mourinho to miss Inter Milan match after being sent out for mocking Monza bench in Roma’s late triumph

AS Roma’s head coach Jose Mourinho is set to leave the Serie A side next summer following the completion of his contract in 2024. It is believed that the Saudi Pro League could be the next possible destination for the Portuguese boss, who arrived in the Italian capital back in 2021.

In a recent league clash, Roma clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Monza on Sunday, propelling them three places up to 7th position on the table. However, Jose Mourinho’s gesture at the opposition bench after the winning goal resulted in him being sent off.

Jose Mourinho receives red card after mocking Monza bench

Roma boss Jose Mourinho led the Italian club to two consecutive continental finals, in the Conference League and Europa League. He also guided them to their first-ever trophy in 60 years. However, this season, they have had a tough start to the league campaign, with only 3 wins in the first 8 matches, leading up to this fixture against Monza.

Roma managed to break the deadlock through Stephan El Shaarawy’s late injury-time winner, sparking jubilation at the Stadio Olimpico. The guests were one man down in the second half following Danilo D’Ambrosio’s red card, despite the Foxes struggling to get past the Monza keeper.

After Roma took the lead in the 90th minute Jose Mourinho celebrated the late winner, subsequently taunting the opponent’s bench with crying and rubbing his eyes gesture in a typical Mourinho way as retaliation to something said from Monza’s bench.

For his actions, the Portuguese manager was given a straight red card by the referee, and he quietly left the dugout amid mocking remarks. This red card means he is set to miss the next match against his former side, Inter Milan.

Jose Mourinho’s reaction to Roma’s late winner vs Monza

As Roma welcomed the Italian interim manager Raffaele Palladino, who led AC Monza at their home Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, the team aimed to secure their 3rd consecutive league win. Despite having 10 men on the pitch, Monza’s side remained equally competitive throughout the entire 90 minutes.

Roma secured the 3 points with a later winner, resulting in a 1-0 scoreline after Jose Mourinho went down on his knees to celebrate the added-time goal. Needless to say, the Portuguese genius foster the same passion for the sport as he did back in his heydays of his managerial career.

Roma is set to face Slavia Praha in their UEFA Europa League match on Thursday.
