Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is currently the highest-paid player in the NFL, making an average of $60 million a year. The only player who could have topped that salary is 2024 MVP Josh Allen.
But he chose not to do it with his new contract extension. Recently, Allen explained why he didn’t go for the higher pay, even though he had the chance to demand it.
Josh Allen signed a contract extension with the Buffalo Bills for six years, worth $330 million, including $250 million guaranteed. This deal will pay him about $55 million per year through the 2030 season.
Even though he could have asked for over $60 million a year as an MVP, he chose to keep the deal lower to give his team more financial flexibility.

"I know it's weird to say, but what's $5M more gonna do for my life right now that I can't already do? …I live a really good life. Got a house, got a car. We're… pic.twitter.com/sEaQ4MGfKC
Allen’s main goal is to win a Super Bowl, and he knows the Bills need money to add more talent to the team. If he took a higher salary, it would be harder for the team to build a strong roster. Allen said his top priority was making sure the Bills could stay competitive.
The 28-year-old said, “To my perspective, it didn’t seem like I was taking a whole lot less. The way I make sense of it, when you start getting these fairly big numbers throughout the entire league, it’s weird to say this, but what’s 5 (million) more going to do for my life that I already cannot do now?”
Josh Allen denies giving Hailee Steinfeld a new engagement ring
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen talked about the rumors of giving his fiancée, Hailee Steinfeld, a bigger engagement ring after signing his $330 million contract extension.
During a livestream with 7 News WKBW, Allen laughed when asked if he planned to spend some of his money on a new ring or wedding expenses. He replied, “A bigger ring you said? Uh, nah, I think she likes the one she’s got.”

Allen’s fun response made it clear that he isn’t planning to upgrade the ring, and Steinfeld has been happily wearing the original one since their proposal in November 2024.
