UFC Lightweight contender Justin Gaethje has named Khabib Nurmagomedov as the toughest opponent he has ever faced inside the octagon.
Speaking on Full Send podcast ahead of his fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 274, Justin Gaethje revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov is the toughest fighter he has faced. Khabib, who retired 29-0, is considered by many as the greatest fighter to have inside the octagon. While there have been rebuttals to the claims, he is certainly up there as one of the bests.
Khabib and Gaethje faced off in UFC 254 on October, 2020. Back then, Gaethje was the interim champion, whilst Khabib was the undisputed champion. But The Eagle made quick work of the American as he submitted him halfway through round 2.
Following the fight, Khabib retired with an impeccable record. He cited the death of his father as the reason behind his premature retirement. Speaking about that event, Gaethje claims that a lot of things played into the event, but ultimately Khabib was the better fighter. He also said that Khabib is the best fighter of this generation.
Ever since Khabib, Gaethje has fought twice. He beat Michael Chandler via decision to get another shot at the title. But in that fight he lost out to Charles Oliveira.
