The NBA regular season is coming to an end, and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has left the MVP race behind, but some individuals still seem to support him, nonetheless.
The MVP race became two-dimensional after Giannis suffered a wrist injury and missed several games in the last month. This season, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid and the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic are the leading contenders for the award.
Unlike most others, a popular analyst shocked the NBA community with his unconventional choice of the Bucks star as MVP.
Who chose Giannis Antetokounmpo as MVP?
Former Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins didn’t feel shy about letting his support be known to the media as he chose the 28-year-old as this year’s MVP. In his show, ‘First Take,’ the former professional revealed the reason for his unique choice.
“We are talking about a guy who is fifth in the league in scoring. Right now, he is averaging a career-high in points, his team has the best record in the league,” Kendrick said. “When it comes down to Giannis, we are getting bored with him because it’s the norm.”
“He’s third in rebounding, and guess what, these points that he is averaging per game..when you look at the top 10 scorers in the game… he’s doing it in 32 minutes. That’s less minutes than any other player that’s in the top ten,” the 38-year-old added.

“The best player in the league, on the best team averaging a career-high in points, third in rebounding, Giannis is getting my vote for MVP,” Perkins concluded. It seems he’s pretty hooked up with the back-to-back two-time MVP winner, and no matter what, he is determined to go for him.
Antetokounmpo has scored an average of 31.1 points with 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game so far this season. He has one more game to play against the Toronto Raptors, but it seems that the wings and Jokic have gone out of reach at this moment.
Furthermore, the Greek Freak had already achieved two MVPs, and this time he is more focused on grabbing the title for the second time. The Bucks are the table-toppers in the Eastern Conference with a .716 record, and they will probably have a few more hurdles to overcome in doing so.
