ESPN personality and former NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, Kendrick Perkins, has shown his admiration for New York Knicks’ All-Star Jalen Brunson. During a recent episode of First Take, Perkins expressed his high regard for Brunson, stating that he wouldn’t trade him for any other point guard in the league at the moment.
Perkins went on to specifically mention that he would prefer Brunson over players like Stephen Curry and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, highlighting the level of respect he has for Brunson’s skills and contributions to the game.

In his second year with the New York Knicks, Brunson is having an incredible season. He’s averaging 27.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game, shooting 47.8% from the field and 39.9% from beyond the arc. Notably, the Villanova alum has earned his first All-Star nod and is in contention for more season-end honors.
While speaking on ESPN’s first take, the former NBA Champion was quite vocal in his support for Brunson. “I wouldn’t take one, nobody [over Brunson],” Kendrick Perkins said.
“And it’s no disrespect to Steph Curry, it’s no disrespect to SGA, but I’m not taking anybody over Jalen Brunson. Didn’t you see him handing out 42 pieces [points]? Did you hear what Mike Brown said about Jalen Brunson as far as the attention and the details they had to put around him?”, he added.
Recently, even Golden State Warriors and Team USA coach Steve Kerr expressed interest in having Brunson join Team USA this year, highlighting his impact on the court. It’s a breakout season for Brunson, drawing attention for his stellar performance and potential national team role.
Despite facing significant injuries to key players such as Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, and OG Anunoby, the Knicks appear poised to secure a playoff spot this season. Much credit goes to Brunson’s exceptional performance. As of now, the Knicks boast a 41-28 record and hold the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, showcasing their resilience and determination amidst challenges.
