The Sacramento Kings ended their 16-year NBA Playoff drought this season, and General Manager Monte McNair credits the impact of Domantas Sabonis as a key factor in their success. Sabonis, who was acquired at the trade deadline last season, played a pivotal role in the Kings’ formidable roster with his impressive numbers, averaging 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

McNair recently spoke about Sabonis during an end-of-season press conference, saying, “Domas is obviously an All-Star this year and I think should be All-NBA along with De’Aaron [Fox], so we will find that out soon. Domas is a huge part of what we do, and we’re going to do all we can to keep him here and build around him.”
Sabonis led the league in rebounding for the first time in his career and was first in double-doubles with 65, while also finishing second in triple-doubles this season. McNair praises Sabonis for his massive impact on the offensive end of the floor, where he continues to prove his value and leadership for the Kings.
The 27-year-old big man has one more year left on his contract, and with his All-Star and likely All-NBA recognition this season, he will be eligible for an extension. However, it does not seem like Sabonis will be going anywhere anytime soon, as the Kings love his production and leadership within the organization.
Sabonis has embraced his role as a leader for the Kings and has been instrumental in the team’s success this season. McNair recognizes Sabonis’ contributions, and with his continued commitment to building around him, the Kings could be a legitimate threat in the Western Conference for years to come.
