KRU, the Argentine eSports team owned by Lionel Messi, suffered a setback in the Valorant America Regional Tournament that puts a serious question mark over their participation in the upcoming Madrid Masters.
The team expected better results after going winless in the VCT America’s last year. The results were somewhat expected after KRU parted ways with two of their experienced players at the start of this year.
KRU Esports is out of the VCT Americas Kickoff Tournament
The VCT America Kickoff is over for KRU Esports after losing to G2 Esports by a 2-0 margin on Monday. This was the second consecutive loss for the Argentine team after losing to the same opponents in their first match in Group C.
This was the elimination match for KRU Esports. The first round was close, as only two points separated the team. KRU started out in a good way, taking a 7-2 lead. But NeT was the decider between the two teams, as he finished with 20 kills. KRU could not come back in the second round, even after some impressive performances from Shyy and Keznit. neT finished top in the kills chart as G2 Esports joined Sentinels and MIBR in the play-ins.
KRU ended their campaign without a win. VCT America’s will conclude on March 3rd, where we will have the two teams who will get a direct qualification to the Madrid Masters happening later next month.
Lionel Messi promotes KRU Esports’ VCT Team Capsule on IG story
Earlier, co-owner Leo Messi was seen promoting the KRU Team Capsule on his Instagram story. This was before the start of VCT America’s in February. Being a global phenomenon, this move by Messi is sure to bring dividends for his eSports team. Team Capsules are a way for the participating teams to make money, as Valorant reportedly shares 40% of their revenue with them.
Sergio Aguero, a longtime friend of Leo Messi, is the co-founder of KRU Esports. No wonder this is a compelling reason why Messi decided to buy a stake here. KRU Esports is involved with Valorant, FIFA, and Rocket League competitive tournaments worldwide.
