Kylian Mbappe creates PSG history as Lionel Messi continues to dominate scoring stats in French League

Paris Saint Germain superstars Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are dominating on the pitch for the club, as Mbappe reached a club milestone and Messi reached another glorious record. Both players scored in the 4-2 win against Nantes on Saturday night.

Kylian Mbappe made club history when he became PSG’s all-time top scorer at the young age of just 24. His 92nd-minute goal was his 201st goal for the club, surpassing the previous record of 200 goals set by Edinson Cavani. The French star took only 247 appearances to break the record since joining the club in 2017 from Monaco. Cavani needed 3o1 matches when he played at PSG for seven years.

Mbappe’s historic record comes after he almost led France to World Cup glory in the last final where he scored a hat trick. He had also won the Golden Boot in the competition. It was his club teammate Messi who would go on to win the final lifting the coveted World Cup trophy finally. Mbappe previously won the World Cup in 2018.

PSG started the game well with a Lionel Messi goal in the 12th minute. Just five minutes later, Jaouen Hadjam scored an own goal thanks to a saved effort from PSG’s Nuno Mendes. Nantes quickly equalized before the first half when they scored two goals. Danilo Periera then put them in the lead again in the 60th minute thanks to a Kylian Mbappe assist. Mbappe then sealed the game with his record-breaking goal in the 92nd minute.

Messi’s goal was his 799th career goal just one short of 800 career goals. It was also a record of 1000 club goal involvements for the Argentine as he continues to dominate the French league. The World Cup winner has 13 goals and 12 assists in just 21 appearances. After arriving in Paris from Barcelona last season where he initially suffered, he has since turned it up this season. He was also the World Cup’s Best player and won FIFA’s Best award.

Messi is also rumored to leave PSG in recent days with Inter Miami and Barcelona as his most possible destinations. While Mbappe had snubbed Real Madrid last season to stay at PSG.

Both Mbappe and Messi have been a dangerous duo for PSG with Neymar often missing matches due to injury. Both of them are looking to finally end PSG’s Champions League drought. They lost the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Bayern Munich at home 1-0, where Mbappe only played the second half as he was returning from injury.

Both are expected to travel for the second leg at Munich where fans will hope both will conjure some magic to help turn around the tie.
