Kylian Mbappe equals Edinson Cavani for position of PSG’s all-time leading scorer after netting from Lionel Messi’s assist vs Marseille

Kylian Mbappe is a turbulent force that keeps on destroying record after record as the Frenchman now becomes an all-time top scorer after equalling the number with Edinson Cavani.

Edinson Cavani played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from 2013 to 2020 and during his time at the club, he became PSG’s all-time top scorer, scoring a total of 200 goals in 301 appearances across all competitions.

Mbappe took only 247 outings to smash the record for the Parisian after scoring a brace against Marseille yesterday as it is now only a matter of time before the World Cup winner will establish himself at the top of the chart.

The Frenchman has broken a few records on PSG’s dominating 3-0 win over their rival Marseille at the Stade Orange Velodrome stadium as he was rampant throughout the game.

“Le Classique” is the most prestigious event in France as PSG and Marseille shared a prolonged spirit of fighting hard against each other and Mbappe moved up to number eight of the highest goal scorer in this monumental event.

The all-time top scorer in “Le Classique” is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played for PSG from 2012 to 2016 at his time in the club, he scored a total of 10 goals in matches against Marseille.

Other notable players who have scored multiple goals in “Le Classique” include Pauleta, who scored 8 goals for PSG, and Jean-Pierre Papin, who scored 7 goals for Marseille.

Mbappe scored twice after opening the scoresheet at 25 minutes and secured the win at the 55 minutes from a beautifully crafted assist from Lionel Messi as the Frenchman became the first player since Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score a brace for PSG against Marseille.

The French hero is PSG’s biggest rescuer time and time again as the World Cup winner at the age of 19 has now scored two goals in a single match for a staggering 50 competitive games for PSG which is a record.

PSG and Mbappe will face the mighty Bayern Munich on March 8 for the second leg of the UCL round of sixteen and after previously taking a tumble following a 1-0 loss in the first leg, Mbappe will be eyeing to carry on the domestic form to the European competition.
